Hi all: I'm JR, and have lurked and learned for about 2 years (started in 2002), and I finaly decided after many changes of heart to build a Guillemot L. I came to this decision based on many different factors. First size, I am 6'3" and weigh about 220 (sometimes 225, sometimes 205, depends on how much I am working out, and how much I am eating) and am in pretty good shape for 53 soon to be 54. Secondly I like the lines of the Gilly, it looks like what a kayak should look like in my mind. Thirdly I feel that this site is a great asset to anyone who is building a wooden sea kayak, or any other kayak or boat, and that if Nick is willing to do this for free I should give special concideration to his designs. Having said that I would not have built the Gilly if I had not liked it VERY much. If there had been a design by some other builder that I liked a LOT more then I would have built that. A bit more about me. I live in a small town caller Marble Rock in north central Iowa. Marble Rock is on the banks of the Shell Rock river and is named after the local limestone which is so hard that the early settlers thought it was Marble. It is a great little community and I am honored to be the Mayor. I find the people on this bb to be fascinating and always very helpful. JR
