I am a newcomer to the kayak building world. I was inspired to build when I picked up an old Sea Kayaker magazine in a holiday house in the summer of 2003 and saw one of Nick Schade's strip built boats. I was hooked by the sight of that beautiful kayak despite not having paddled for a decade. I finished my first strip built boat in the winter of 2003 Nick's Little Auk design. Since then the children and I have completed 3 skin on frame boats from Tom Yost's plans (non folders) and I am drawing to a close on a second stripper. In my other life I am a physician specialised in Sport and Exercise Medicine, and am currently the president of the Australasian College of Sports Physicians. I live in Hobart,the capital city of Tasmania which is the island state south of mainland Australia. Tasmania has a strong seafaring and boat building tradition and I feel linked to it now by my kayaks.
