Do those cyclone separators separate the fine dust effectively?
I know they work for shavings and sawdust, but finer dust seems to be a challenge for most vacuum systems I've tried.

Did you build a rolling cart for the ShopVac and the DustDeputy or do you have a 'fixed installation' and piping in your shop?

The fine dust is effectively kept away from the filter. I seldom feel the need to clean the filter. I putter in my shop quite a bit (and sometimes build boats) and nearly always connect the vacuum to any tool I am using. I clean the filter maybe once a year. When the collector bucket is full there may be 1/4 cup of dust and particles in the vac bucket. I built a rack that stays in the corner for permanent installation with my shop vac below the dust separator. I just use the vacuum hoses that fit my vac to reach the tools I need I also have another vac used as a roll around unit. That filter is always in some degree of clogged with dust.
I have used a bag filter over my vac filter in my roll around unit but it quickly clogs with dust - however it is much easier to clean than the filter.
