Strip: Hatch cover

Many moons ago I saw an article somewhere on hatch construction that I can no longer find - anywhere. I have searched this site and the internet and all you-tubes I can find to no avail. I will tell you what "I think" I remember and maybe someone can point me in the right direction.
Used clear contact paper on the inside of the hull, laid down foam weather stripping, built up each side of the stripping and laid several layers of glass over it, removed the layup, removed the weather stripping, reglued the layup onto the underside of the deck. Trimmed the layup from the top side and installed new weather stripping into the grove left by the previous tape. I believe the actual cover had reinforcement strips glued to the underside before it was removed which was to help hold its shape and were used to attach internal hold down bungees to.
Does any of this ring a bell with anyone ?
Thank you,
