Do seats generally provide any sort of structural component to a boat? I hate the composite seat that came with my boat and was planning to remove it and replace it with a handmade foam seat but the sides of the kayak are "pinched" in to attach/reach to the seat. I wasn't sure if this was for structure or if the seat was a tad narrow and they were just made it fit.

Thanks
