Thanks John! In terms of fiberglass cloth I am assuming that I would need a minimum of 20 yards for a 14 foot boat?

It depends a bit on the width of the cloth, and the shape of the boat. Sometimes I have gotten away with using less cloth than I expected.
Most builders (?) use wide cloth and drape it on the hull on the diagonal - it conforms to the curves more easily that way (on the bias). The excess cloth (two long triangles) is trimmed off before the epoxy is applied. Sometimes those pieces can be used inside, in the ends of the boat, or to make a double layer on the hull bottom, or trimmed for use on the stems, etc..

But, yes, for a first build, and to be sure you have enough cloth - 4 x boat length will certainly do the job. You'll have leftovers which always come in handy for repairs and making boat parts (glass padeyes for lashing points inside the boat, making glass bulkheads, etc.). Doubling the glass inside where your heels will rest is a good idea and only takes a square foot or so of cloth.
