This is very true. If you look at main-line kayak manufacturers now, you will see that their seats have a lot of fancy quick adjustments with ratchets and quick releases etc. They tend to be ergonomic horror shows as far as efficient paddling, but they allow the salesman or customer to quickly and easily get the seat Lazy-Boy comfortable and make the sale.

Note, that once you have your seat adjusted you may never need to adjust it again, so all those fancy gewgaws for quick adjustment just become excess weight and potential failure points as the mild steel parts rust away after their first exposure to salt water.
