I have made several GPs. All WRC laminated with various hardwoods, using the Chuck Holst method. http://www.qajaqusa.org/QK/makegreen2.pdf

Recently I purchased a GearLab NukiliK http://www.gearlabpaddles.com/shop.php?cID=2&Key=40#test1
CF paddle because I want a take a part paddle for an upcoming trip that requires air travel.

This is the first CF GP I have ever used and I have to say it is quite a revelation. All my paddling buddies (men and women, very strong and very average, GPers and EPers) really like it. It has more authority than my wood GPs. The catch is amazing, super strong and silent, zero flutter. This paddle really rewards (and somehow encourages) good technique.
I think what may be the biggest difference is that the blades of the Nukilik are very thin. I don't think I could make a wood GP in my size (223) with the same cross section that would last very long.
Interestingly the Nukilik is 3cm shorter than my ideal wood GP and slightly heavier at 854g vs 817g.

I still love my wood GPs and will keep building and using them but on the next one I'm going to take a few cues from the Nukilik and try more laminations to make it a little stiffer, make the shoulders a little more pronounced and a slightly wider and thinner blade, maybe reinforced with lightweight fiberglass for durability.
