Rob,I get your drift, but the wax moves the kayak much faster through the water (especially salt ).

There isn't any consensus on this, actually.

If wax keeps your hull cleaner (keeping crud from sticking), it will make your boat faster. So, for those of us who aren't very diligent in cleaning our boats, wax might be a good thing. It will accentuate the sliding problem that Rob described, if your boat is pulled up on a 'beach' composed of rounded gravel.
