Very nice!

So when you're under sail, are you sitting in the cockpit like a canoe, or due to heeling, do you sit up on the side like in a sailboat? Reason I'm asking is I see that the mizzen-mast blocks access to the tiller, so it looks like you've got some control lines running forward. Wondering if it'd be possible to install a kayak-style foot-operated rudder system - but clearly that's not going to work if you're hiked out on the rail.

There are several options for sailing this boat. For the prototype here, I chose the more sporty version. That is, usually sitting on the side decks, and steering with a "slave tiller" which has lines led aft to the regular tiller.
The slave tiller kicks up, so you can sit inside the cockpit, however, and steer with a long push/pull steering stick to the aft tiller.
It would, in fact, be easier to omit the slave tiller and steer solely with the steering stick or - yes - with foot pedals while sitting in the cockpit.

As is, she will sail with two sitting on the side decks, or one person in the cockpit. There will be a long cockpit version in the future, to take two - or sleep one. It will likely use a leeboard, though.

Anyway, there's a building thread on the WBF, with much more info and many more pics. http://forum.woodenboat.com/showthread.php?215358-Building-Chautaqua-a-decked-sailing-canoe/page2
