Here is the one and only definition of "fuselage"

In a kayak the term refers to the construction method, i.e. it is made like a fuselage (see image from wikipedia below). It is not suggesting that is making a fuselage.

However per wikipedia "from the French fuselé "spindle-shaped"" it would be perfectly apt.
