I'm feeling gun-shy about posting anything, I don't want to get jumped on, but I'll stick to the facts.

If I'm reading it correctly, the post you cite seems to be assuming that you have to choose between a rigidly-constructed fuselage frame or a lashed bent-rib frame. However, when researching kayak designs I came across a guy who designs lashed fuselage frame SOFs. I have no idea whether these are good, bad, or whatever, but his site has information you might find helpful - kudzucraft.com

I hope you get some good responses - it's an interesting question.
