I also should warn anyone else that tries this that the majority of auto clear hardeners contain isocyanate which is toxic and a charcoal respirator should be used. When the clear hardens the toxicity is no longer present.

Good advice.
Some of the 'boatbuilding 2-part paints and clears (Awlgrip, Epifanes, Interlux) seem to be even more noxious than the modern automotive products. The vapours can affect the eyes so full-face fresh air supply (HobbyAire or similar) protection is even better than a 'regular' canister respirator mask.
Definitely strong arguments for finding a willing auto spray shop (and pro sprayer) in your area!
