I hope this is a water based stain as oil based could cause problems with epoxy adhesion.

Yes, Behlens Solar Lux is a NGR dye, not oil based. it's an alcohol base that drys very quickly. I'm sure I saw that Nick Schade recommended it somewhere on his web site.

I have used auto paints that some of the tinting colours were dye based and the Behlens Solar Lux sprayed very much like the few auto paint colours in this category. I realize the two products are totally different, but when I sprayed the Behlens it sprayed with the same characteristics as the auto paint; put the colour on quickly and had a tendency to go on botchy if one was not careful.

The wood grain has come out beautifully.

I may try your brush technique with the water-based product in the future.
