Always take duct tape with you.

I can't argue with that recommendation, but take LOTS OF IT! Most duct tape will not stick to a wet kayak very well, so you 'll need to wrap it 'round and round' the boat to be effective.
There are some sticky products available from roofing suppliers that will stick to wet surfaces. Some are made to patch holes in gutters/eavestroughs.
