Minicell will work.

It is relatively heavy, but I don't think you care. Personally I do care about the weight.

Its relatively expensive - something I also care about.

Neither issue seems to matter much to you.

And what are you basing that assessment on? Where have I said I don't care about weight or expense? BTW when I look at prices for float bags, they aren't giving them away for free by any means.

If you want supplemental flotation it is certainly your choice.
I have bulkheads and that is enough for me.
A strip kayak with no floation will not sink, if you are not in it. It will be at or below the water with you in it. That is of no benefit to me for a recovery.

Seems like an odd thing to say, but whatever.

You are getting pretty adamant and somewhat insulting about a personal choice.
This is like saying a bicycle is dangerous because it will fall over. It is what it is and you can choose not to use one. But they are in common use and work well for most people.

I took "The OP doesn't care about that" as a personal insult. You have no idea what I do or don't find important.

It's not at all like arguing about whether people should use bicycles because they're dangerous - it's somewhat more like arguing about whether bicycle riders should wear helmets, but it's a LOT more like arguing about whether or not boaters ought to wear PFDs. Do you wear a PFD?

Quit trying to guilt everyone because of their choice and your "excessive" caution. IMHO.

Nick uses float bags. Lee uses milk cartons. Is that excessive caution? Marc, I don't know anything about you - I don't know what sort of paddling you do. Are you going out on a lake? Are you doing short trips close to shore? Are you going offshore with a heavy load of cargo? Obviously these factors all weigh in to whether supplemental flotation is necessary - so I would have no basis for telling you that you should or shouldn't use it for your particular situation.

For me, I know I'd like to be able to use my boat in scenarios where supplemental flotation would be appropriate, and looking at my plans, those pointy-nosed float bags aren't going to fit in my bow anyway. So that's why I'm discussing this. If you find yourself feeling guilty about something, well, that's entirely on you.
