SOF doesn't have to be all that different from other kayaks other than having to dry the boat out between uses, which you should be doing with any boat anyway.

They can be just as durable as any other construction, they can be made to fit very similar to other kayaks, there really isn't a reason they are different other than their construction.

I can build a fuselage SOF for well under $500 with my Dacron/glass/epoxy skin, can be somewhat less expensive with less expensive fabric.
