That all said, the citrus based paint strippers won't harm epoxy, it's slower than the solvent based strippers but is also safer. It will only strip the varnish, not the epoxy.

I gave up sanding off paint/varnish surfaces many years ago, just too much dust and work. Strippers for me are the only way to go.
