I agree with Bill. You're biggest concern is getting wife trained up and comfortable with the wobbliness of a kayak. Once she learns to "keep her butt under her head" she'll be fine and happy. It can happen...I got my partner out into the near open seas in a Current Designs double despite the fact that she said she'd never go out that far...it can be done.
