Hi Kurt,

Strip planking is or at least was a common wooden boat building method. Not always covered in glass. It seems similar to our kayaks but not really.

Normally the strips are fairly thin (compared to normal boat building wood), have concave/convex matching shaped strip and are edge nailed as well as glued between strips. Hulls can be built over forms and don't require many if any frames.

Like I said, it's similar to strip kayak construction but not the same.
