The word 'plank' always seemed a little obese to me, considering the svelte nature of a typical cedar strip. And it turns out that my Blighty bud had heard the term in reference to larger craft.

Yes, that seems out of place to me also, for the same reasons.

Everyone I've known, Dave Hazen, Gil Gilpatrick, and others including a younger Nick have called it "Strip" construction.

Here is what I think.

I've run into friction from WoodenBoat editors who've wanted to insert the "Strip Plank" term, in articles I've offered instead my use of "Strip or Stripper".

Only builders who have taught at WoodenBoat School use the term "Strip Planked".

And before Nick taught at WoodenBoat School, Ted Moores taught there.

I believe Ted started using the term "Strip Planked" because in the 70s and early 80s stripper/fiberglass canoe construction was not really considered a real "wooden boat" construction method like other traditional wood "Planked" hulls, so Ted called it "strip planked" making it more acceptable to the traditional wooden boat building school.

And since Nick is working at the WoodenBoat School, now he has been turned into a "Strip Planked" zombie!

Help! Can we save him?

Oh, never mind. I'm probably wrong.

Or, am I?

I've never used 1/4" thick planks!
