Beyond the basic rule of thumb of 2 bdft per foot of boat, you can also use my strip calculator: http://www.guillemot-kayaks.com/guillemot/blog/nick/strip_planked_boat_material_and_weight_calculator

Assuming a surface area of 47 sq ft for the solo Bootlegger, 1/4" thick square edged strips and a 0.1" thin blade, you get 28 linear feet of 3/4 x 11-1/2 boards. This is nominally 28 bd ft.

This assumes 20% safety margin, but does not assume that you are book matching.
