Strip: Board feet needed?

Hi all,
To any solo microbootlegger builders out there:
Do you happen to know how many board feet of material you went through to strip the boat?
The rule of thumb I've seen on this site is 2 board feet per linear foot of boat, so the solo microbootlegger would be 28bf. Is that high? Low?
If you have an answer I'd appreciate knowing how thick you cut your strips and whether you used a thin-kerf blade of some sort.
I'm planning to use mahogany and would rather not grossly overbuy, but my supplier is a long drive away so I'd rather not underdo it either.
Related: I'm expecting to start with 3/16 strips to allow for zealous fairing of possibly less than perfectly milled strips. I've read of using 1/8" strips but figure it would be smart to allow myself a bit more wiggle room. Any thoughts on this? I'm not terribly concerned with making a featherweight boat.
Thanks,
Patrick
