I bought both of my wooden kayaks on Craigslist. You may not get what you put into it, but it's way better than nothing. I think I paid $400 for my S&G Coho 17 (with paddle, PFD, pump, and other accessories).

When you figure the prior owner paid I'm guessing $700 for the kit in 2001--a $300 "loss" for 14 years of enjoyment doesn't sound so bad. Especially if you're about to move house.
