The hull/deck seam "is" going to be stronger than the rest of the boat regardless if it's needed or not. To keep it water tight and strong enough as a secondary bonding there's way more fiber/epoxy there than needed for overall strength. Ideally you'd build the boat as a left and right half and join it at the keel where the extra strength would be handy, but it's rarely done that way since it's very difficult to tell if everything is straight while you're building it.

Done on occasion with production molds since it's much easier to build an interior with the hull open so you can just walk up to it instead of climbing in and out.
