Mine is pretty sharp (for wood) on the outer edges; I want the paddle to be very quiet. I plan to add some G/Flex 655 epoxy to the tips and first foot or so from the tip along the edge of each blade.

That sounds like a good plan.
Out here, (Vancouver Island) most places I paddle have rocks. All my paddling friends catch an underwater rock with the paddle blade occasionally.
