The transitions are actually pretty smooth now. I haven't managed a sharp line at the peak of the bevel in the section between loom and blade--but it's good enough. I know it's not going to be perfect. It does now (post-sanding) look 100% better than in those photos, though.

BTW, re finishing: I had planned to buy some Deks Olje no. 1, but I can't find it anywhere. I happen to have some Epifanes Teak Oil Sealer on hand--more than enough to oil the paddle. Anyone have an opinion on this?

(I also have some Cabot Australian Timber Oil, but something tells me that's a bad idea. Used to use it on our old mahogany porch, and it took a couple of days to dry.)
