I am intrigued by the photo Bill posted on the Scarab 18 folding trimaran a month ago and have thought a lot about it. I am turning 72 years young soon and health reasons are forcing me to drop out of my airplane building hobby and sell my current project. I still need a "project" of some sort and this could be it.
My total fiberglass/boat building experience has been building 3 kayaks over the last two years. I am far from an expert and still making a lot of mistakes but making progress. I will be building 3 more kayaks this fall/winter for more experience. At this point I would say I am to ignorant to know what intelligent questions to ask so any comments - suggestions - pro's - con's will all be gratefully accepted. Also, I have never been in a sailboat in my life. All I know is the wind blows on a big sheet and the boat moves . . . . . . .
Is this project to big for my experience ? What can I expect in the form of plans quality and completeness ? Are the materials required readily available ? What would be an approximate materials cost to expect ? Once I am blown to the downwind side of the lake will I be able to learn - from someone ? - how to get back ?
