I will commit blasphemy around here and say that I don't worry about the flecks, motes, specks, and dots in the finish. Varnish is for UV blocking. Mine has dust specks and the occasional brush bristle in it. 3 coats of good spar varnish appears to work well for me to stop the UV from damaging the epoxy. Appearance is good from the shore but not from 3 feet away. I'm the only one that looks that close and I accept that the boat is for paddling not exhibiting.
