Have you seen my GB trips @ http://www.laughingloon.com/trips.html

Thanks for your input Rob, and yes I have seen your Georgian Bay pics on your site. I was going to build an Ootek before i choose the Petrel, but I bought plans from Noahs and they didn't have the Ootek plans in stock. I will call you if and when I start on another boat and get the plans directly from you. The addiction is becoming worse.

We usually paddle out from Parry Sound or Snug Harbor to the west coast of Franklin Island. it's remote enough we don't see a lot of other people, but you have to know the weather because paddlers can be stranded there for a day or so if the wind picks up enough. They have funnel waves on the west coast of the island that are impressive.
I have yet to paddle the Killarney region, but maybe this year. I am paddling the top of the Bruce Penninsula in a month or so, and am in the planning stages of a L. Superior trip this summer. With one of my sons, I paddled the Everglades Gulf Coast this past winter. Nice and warm, but the water isn't clear and when there was no wind the mosquitos were intense, and we were camping on white sand beaches.

i applied the carbon fabric to the outside of the hull first, including the fill coats, with the hull still on the form, and left it there for a few days to cure. When I turn it over to pull the forms and strong back out of the hull it was still tight against the forms. I then cleaned up and sanded the inside of the hull. Before I applied the carbon to the inside I put a fillet into the hard chine area to create a smoother transition for the carbon fabric which doesn't like to lay down in tight angles.
I had the carbon applied and a fill coat about 6-7 hours later, and then as soon as it was set up enough I put the strong back and forms back into the upright hull, all in one day. At this point, I discover the spread along the shear, and it's uniform all the way down the shear.
I have a couple of suspicions; perhaps the fillet, which was a standard resin, hardener and wood flour mix, might have had something to do with it, or maybe it was from pressure on the centre of the hull suspended between my two support horses that were too far toward the ends of the hull, and not supporting it evenly.

Anyway, I now have it trussed up like Christmas turkey with filament tape, on the forms, and hope it cures, more or less, into the correct beam dimension.

Where do I find that "select file" feature? It isn't at the top of this reply box.
