Has anyone tried AdTech Epoxy? It's around the same price as West 207 for a gallon, but it mixes at 5:1 not 3:1, so it's actually more product for the money. I have read on other forums modulus, strength, and HDT are higher for the Adtech 820 vs. West 105, but after a 5-minute search the company's web pages seem to be in French so I can't really confirm it. One knock is potentially cure time, and a second is a slightly bluish color, but I'm not going bright, so that's inconsequential for this project. Of course, for fill coats I would need to know about blush as well-

Yeah, for reason their initial website comes up as French. Click the tab in the upper right corner to change language. Here's a link to the resins page, in English:

Here's the TDS for the Marine 820 resin system:

I tried some Adtech 820 with medium hardener this winter/spring on my daughter's S&G baidarka and on my strip Panthera. My composite supplier recommended it. You're right: it's cured properties are fantastic. The strength, modulus and HDT are MUCH higher than West, MAS etc. For my shop conditions the medium hardener appeared the way to go.

At 350 cps it is VERY thin, almost too thin. It penetrates the tightest of weaves very quickly and gave a crystal clear layup. It also penetrates quite deeply into the wood surface. Being so thin it can actually drain vertically out of the weave of the cloth. I was amazed at home much resin dripped out of the laminate and onto the floor of my shop (after squeegeeing the layup). It would be ideal for vacuum infusion.

Depending on your shop the cure time could be a killer. What I found is that it had a very long initial gel time. The final cure also took much longer than what I'm use to. It doesn't like colder shop temps either. You really need to keep them up during the entire cure cycle.

As for color, the 820 I received was light amber in color, not blue. It was quite pleasant on my dark cedar. It also had more of an odor than I was used to.

Cost-wise it was substantially more expensive than the epoxy I usually use. Factoring shipping the AdTech 820 came in at $0.88 per mixed ounce. Compare that to my last order of Super Sap CLR/CLF (2:1 bio-based epoxy) which was only $0.63 per mixed ounce. (28% cheaper).

Overall it was a nice experiment. Wetting out fabric was never so easy or complete. For wood core construction I'm not sure the additional strength and modulus benefits are worth the price. It would be interesting to make some test panels, do some destructive testing and see if the higher properties make much of a difference. I'll probably keep what I have left on hand for tough layups but I'm going to stick to CLR for my regular composite work.

Here's a few pics from my BTD Panthera project (more on Facebook):
