So I noticed some Varathane brand Spar Urethane in both oil and water based formulations at the store. The water based product claims to be "Crystal Clear". I emailed the company about using this product and got this response. "We appreciate your use and interest in our Varathane coatings. You may choose to apply our Spar Urethane over a previous coating above the waterline whether it is oil or water based as long as previous coating is cured and is sanded and cleaned appropriately. The Satin sheen should not give you any less UV protection compared to our Gloss urethane." I assume the reference to above the water line is the same as top side paints and other spar coatings and applies to boats that are stored on the water but I am not sure. It may be a viable option has anyone tried it? I have used Epifanes mostly and really lik it but the claim to crystal clear and the price of about 1/2 as much has me interested.
