I have a couple of thoughts. I have a lot of experience as a professional cabinet maker, and I've used lots of different kinds of veneer and edge banding and even made some from time to time in addition to building small boats.

First- there are a few different kinds of edge banding. The easiest to find is the one that will almost certainly not work. That's the stuff with hot melt backing. Then there is paper-backed, which will work with aliphatic resin glue (carpenter's glue), but what you likely will want is unbacked, and unglued. You'll probably have to look at a place that sells veneer to find it, though.

Are you just planning on using edge banding so that you can dye the hull then stick the edge banding on? You'll have a very hard time using it as a sheer strip because it won't want to bend in two different planes. If all you want is to keep your light strip free of dye, I would strongly suggest painting it with some wax-free super-blonde shellac. Shellac sticks to everything, and everything sticks to shellac... As long as it's a small area and you scuffed it and didn't leave it glossy there shouldn't be any problems with epoxy adherence.

Third is- if you really want to use edge-banding to make fine lines, what I would suggest is taking long pieces of cedar the same width as your edge banding and make and edge-banding sandwich. Then once it's dry, slice off strips from the edge, and you can rout them just like any other strip, and it will lay down nice just like a regular strip. No fussing with a tiny strip. This is how they make fancy decorative banding. You can do it with any contrasting wood- it doesn't need to be veneer or edge banding. I have glued 1/4" thick pieces to 1/2" thick pieces to make a 3/4" strip with a built in accent stripe. I figured out how much I'd need and made it the width that would accommodate that many strips and then just sawed them right off the board I made during the glue. Makes life easier to do it that way.

Just a thought.
