I agree Bill. Don't let the dust stay in the work place from the beginning. I rip strips outside (even in the snow). My shop vac is behind a cellar door and my sanding is done with a vac hose attachment. I work in my basement and from the beginning I knew I didn't want dust entering the ducts.
Even sacrificing heat with a window open and an exhaust fan is better than, breathing cedar dust.
I mostly use a fabric dust mask not the big canister types for woodworking. Not the cheap ones but the better quality type that cost about $3 ea. I use the canister mask when I epoxy. But I cheat too.

I know that cedar dust can be quite irritating on your eyes too.

It's not that difficult or expensive to work out some good methods for yourself.
