I do the one a year therapy approach also, 2 in years when I need a lot of therapy. I know maybe 30 people that have built from a kit in the state, about 10 that have gone beyond a kit and maybe 4 that have built more than a couple of boats. Utah is a great place for sea kayaking but the kayaking community is small there is an active population of maybe 40 sea kayakers. It is seldom I see another person with a long boat on the water. The web has been essential for supporting home builders in places like this. I think the number of builders is growing as people seek to reduce the plastic in their lives and hobbies. One positive change is the cheap liftime products kayaks that are available now. They have put a lot more people on the water. Most are clueless about what they are doing but some will learn and advance and many will enjoy what they are doing.
