I agree with Robet. By the way Robert, the glass used by Pygmy is 6 oz. I am strongly considering going with 3 oz at least on the inside on my next one. My Coho at just under 40lbs is very, very durable (I am quite confident I could safely safe weight building one again). I also have a Tern 17. I much prefer the Coho to the Tern, as my feet are tilted differently due to the two panels instead of four on the bottom. Performance-wise the difference is negligible.
I am not one to take good care of things. I haul my boats on a home made rack and strap them down with ratchet straps and have never had an issue. I am only somewhat careful around rocky shorelines. I feel the Pygmies are quite safely overbuilt.
Lia, the Murrelet 4pd sounds like it would be great for your wants. I also agree with Robert about getting the stronger tracking model. We spend way more time going straight than turning. My Coho turns well enough for me. I am assuming the Murrelet turns at least as easily if not more so. I guess if you really want the model with more rocker you could add a skeg but then you add complication and lose storage.
