A lot of answers can be quickly learned from a test panel.

Take a smaller section of the wood you will use or something similar and cut strips, number as they come off the board marking both sides, sand them smooth and apply some shellac to the surfaces so you'll have an idea of how the finished wood will look.

Now you can lay these test pieces out in different ways to see how grain patterns will be revealed.

You'll see if the extra work is worth it to you before you commit.
