Hi all,
Have a new kayak that I launched yesterday. I wanted something hard chine with a bit of volume. My planning did not disappoint. I am calling this the BF-19'. BF stands for best from and it looks better from 19' away::))
It is a compilation of a couple design ideas and stretched out by at least a foot. Stern is a nod to NDK.
It is just over 19' and 22-3/4" wide. I wanted 22" wide but had a miscue with the deck beam and or deck install. Like my other builds it is straight, true and solid at 50 lbs. Hoped for closer to 45 but with VCP hatches, skeg and a layup for the Maine coast it is 50lbs. Ply boats are defiantly heavier than strip the way I build.

So I wanted the stained wood look. Finding that it is rather finicky to get red stain on glued up panels. At the scarfs you can see where the stain does not cover the same over the small bleed out of epoxy. I knew this would happen and tried to minimize. Red stain looks great but will show every cosmetic flaw.
It is fast and edges nice. Seemed to catch small surf quite well. Does not plow water and leaves little wake.
Wished I had done the cockpit recess but I will pad it out better. Did not try rolling because I had very little grip in the cockpit.
After a couple of brain farts while varnishing I have six coats of varnish on the deck and three on the hull :)
Hope to take it to Maine on my week long camping trip in sept..
