Effectively no shelf life for magnets, rare-earth magnets last nearly forever. But:

Rare-earth magnets are actually quite toxic, AFAIK, and they also corrode badly, which is why they are always coated when you buy them (the shiny metal look is a coating) They can quite easily break, so be careful handling them, and make really, really sure they are completely encapsulated in epoxy before getting near water, especially salt water - a pinhole can wreck them in a couple of days!
