Rich,

On my SC-1 build a few years ago (Thank you, Brian Schulz!) I made bow and stern rub strips of approximately ⅜" x ¾" oak. I faired the trailing end — on the bow, leading end on the stern — a bit and hollowed the back side slightly to accommodate the whip-stitching. Fastened w/ stainless flat-head screws, they work quite well. I replaced them a while ago, a very easy task. (Note that the SC-1 has bow and stern profiles that don't require a bent shape, which is why I could use thicker stock; you may have a different situation.)

Glenn

I used steam bent 3/16" x 3/8" oak screwed into the whip stitched seams but the seams are so coarse that it doesn't sit well. What do others use for these and how do you attach them? I have some travel trailer peal and stick rubberized roof patch that bonds to anything but it is stark white.
