Marc,

There will be no loss of strength.
But no fill coats at all might make the area like a cheese grater.
You might wear out your shoe heels, but you won't loose grip. Booties might wear out quickly.
The only thing is you might have to watch for is wearing down the cloth, since there is less protecting it and the peaks will bear all the contact.

Once you wear down the glass there will then be a strength loss.
You might want to put in one fill coat to give a little more protection.
