A third option which I just stumbled onto is the Bjorn Thomason Panthera. I like the specs, description and looks of this boat, but other than that have found very little information.
............

4. I have read the Panthera prototype launch report posted here last fall. Is there any additional info that can be shared? Is the build suitable for a first time strip builder?
5. Any other thoughts, comments or suggestions?
Thanks for your help.

Mark:
I've built a Bjorn Thomasson Panthera, and I posted a bit of info here.
When I discussed the design goals for (what later was called) the Panthera with Bjorn, the idea was for a fast 'big brother' to the Frej, Ability to carry a load, combined with good handling and speed - along the lines of the Epic 18X or the Point 65 Freya Hoffmeister boats- were the goals.
If you are looking for a fitness and race boat, I think something more surfski-like (straighter keel line) might be better than the Panthera. You should ask Bjorn for suggestions.
Other possibilities would be something like Dan Caouette's build of the Yahoo and Spray HPK. The latter was a kayak-ified version of a Bjorn T. surfski hull, IIRC.

As far as first time-builder and difficulty: IMO most hulls are fairly easy to build, but the decks with the hatch recesses and cockpit are more of a challenge. If you are planning a 'wood-look' boat (clear finished with strip patterns, etc.) I'd suggest the simpler deck shapes. A painted finish makes it easier to deal with transitions between wood and glass, and takes away the need for continuous flowing lines of strips around the cockpit.
