Strip: Keel strip

I am still relatively new at kayak building as I just finished my 3rd one. I have installed Etienne Muller's retractable skeg on two boats. They came out great and they work great but . . . a lot of work. I have seen keel strips mentioned here from time to time but they don't seem to be as popular as skegs. I have never paddled a keel strip so I have nothing to compare my skeg's to. I would like to hear lots of opinions both pro and con for both the skeg and keel strip. The end game being, if a keel strip will give me the directional stability that would keep a recreational paddler happy I will put one on my next boat. My follow up question, if I go with a keel strip, where is the best location and size and is it easier to install the strip after the hull is glassed and then just patch over it?
Thank you for your sage advice and opinions :)
