It usually states either on the building plans or on the building guide (if provided) or both that the plans are actually a license to build one boat.

You are talking about Nick's lively hood, not just a hobby. He has a right I'd think to make a reasonable profit from his labors just as I assume you do. And also should expect to receive at least some percentage of the same profit if you decide later on to build again using the same plan.

I agree, and it's not often stated on the web sites I've been on that I remember, that this should be stated somewhere prior to making the plans purchase. Perhaps it is there, and I never noticed.
