I agree with your statements wholeheartedly, alas I may have inadvertently changed the subject.

The Portuguese outfit that is stealing Nick's designs should have contracted with him and paid an amount that would of course depend on the design changes, number of boats projected to be built, so on, so forth. It is absolutely none of my business, but if they were selling Mickey Mouse replicas they should be looking for a higher bridge from which to jump.

Here is the difference I was considering. It is a difference that probably pertains to many users of this board. I just went through the Mystery purchase sequence on Nick's site, right up to the point before hitting the "complete order button" and nowhere does it indicate that I have purchased something from which I can make only one. At the instant before hitting complete order, as far as I know, as an end user, I can make a million for personal use. Maybe I want to make another because my kid learns to drive, and takes off every weekend with the boat to paddle with his friends, or perhaps I realize (too late) I am not a design genius, and need to build another boat to tweak things, etc..

In my humble opinion, my plans and desires should not be put in the realm of contract law, but rather in a previously agreed upon remuneration of someone I respect, and depend on. Having said that, it seems that $25, $10 or 3 attaboys should be put out there without having to hash it out in a contract.
