HI I posted this originally on the general forum but was advised to post this here.

Most lightweight boats a these days built with ribs, frames and longitudinals in Foam and glassed over (or other exotics like kevlar and carbon) .... Much like a wooded skin on frame.

Is there a good reason not to build a kayak this way ?

I read somewhere that many have tried it and not gone down this route for very good reasons... it would allow for a thin tough skin from say Aramid with stringers etc. for stiffness.

Any suggestions or enlightenment would be greatly appreciated
