Other: cross country car topping

I will be driving a little car with thule roof rack and guillemot cross country. I don't have J cradles so was planning on a hull-up transport for aerodynamics. I made some pink foam cradles to fit in between the crossbars and the deck to spread the force out a bit. One problem is that the crossbars aren't far enough apart to fit the cockpit coaming in between. This means one bar is on the rear deck and one is on the coaming. Terrible? Hopefully the foam pads work.

Another issue, I was going to cover with blue tarps to prevent rock damage. I also have stretch wrap. Anyone have experience doing this, any tips?

Thanks!
