Thanks Mike. I have artificial sinew. My concern isn't the number of lashings, but instead the number of knots that I have to draw tight each time I do an individual lashing.

My concern with the longitudinal is, as you pointed out, what happens when one breaks. Morris does say that the wax gums up and keeps it from unraveling.

Did you wrap the sinew around a dowel when you did your one attempt, and still tore up your hands? That doesn't sound like a fun way to do it then.

Maybe I just need to try doing an individual lashing and see how much of a hassle it is.
