I wear a mask plus i have a window open with a fan blowing in air. I have a very strong exhaust fan in a door sucking air out.
This is industrial grade with a 1/2 hp motor and a 15 " fan. When I first tried it, it is strong enough to almost put out my oil burner. Then I have a box fan on a stand that is behind me blowing dust towards the exhaust fan. And a fairly regular vacuum on the sander. I wear a fairly good mask but not a resperator.

If I throw sawdust in the air, it's gone in seconds out the exhaust fan. My workspace is my basement with a Bilco door and an inner door with the exhaust fan in that. I guess I have been lucky. Plus my sander vacuum is outside the door so anything that gets by the filter is outside.

Sounds complicated, but it was cheap and seems to work well. Epoxy fumes is tougher. I use the same system and I figure if I loose my heat, so be it. Been lucky so far.

But if an allergy is bad or even noticeable, perhaps wait untill warm weather and work outside with a fan behind you blowing fumes or dust away.
