If you are comfortable lofting the sections from Nick's book, you could also look at "slightly" increasing the length to say 15ft or 15ft 6" to give you alittle more carrying capacity. I did this very successfully, IMHO, with my first build Guillemot, and have also built the 17ft version as designed. It does give a lot of scope to get a reasonable compromise design. I now have a "boat for all occasions", well nearly, and I'm sure the same would apply wit the Great Auk.
